ENERGY AND GREENHOUSE GAS MITIGATION

Currently, we are facing with “Global Warming” and “Climate Change”. By definition, Global Warming is “the progressive gradual rise of the earth’s surface temperature thought to be caused by the greenhouse effect and responsible for changes in global climate patterns” (UNFCCC, 2015) and Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emission is a major cause of the greenhouse effect. Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (Public Organization) or TGO has an important vision to manage GHG effectively for supporting sustainable development of economy, society and environment, including supporting all activities related to GHG and climate change mitigation.

GHG Emission Situation

The global GHG emission tends to increase continuously. The largest source of emission from human activities is fossil fuel combustion for electricity, industry, and transportation. These activities might be classified by sector in energy sector. Thus, GHG reduction in energy sector should take priority over other sectors.

GHG Mitigation Project in Thailand

: Thailand Voluntary Emission Reduction Programme or T-VER is a domestic GHG mitigation programme developed by TGO with main purpose to promote cooperation of all relevant sectors.

: TGO has responsibility to define criteria, project development process, methodology, project registration, and credit issuance.

: T-VER’s framework is in correspondence with the ISO 14064-2. Monitoring and verification framework of GHG emission is also in correspondence with the ISO 14064-3

Examples of T-VER Energy Projects

(1) Energy Efficiency Improvement Projects
LED Replacement  |  Cogeneration System  |  EE Improvement for Power Plant  |  Chiller Replacement  |  Thermal System Improvement

(2)Alternative Energy Projects
Solar Power Plant  |  Wind Power Plant  |  Hydro Power Plant | Biomass Energy  |  Biogas  |  Waste to Energy  |  Biodiesel Production
